What is a NAAC Green Audit?

Green Audit is a requirement defined in NAAC's accreditation criteria for educational institutions. Every educational organization aiming to achieve NAAC accreditation must undergo a Green Audit and produce an audit report for the NAAC authorities. Additionally, they require an organization to provide an energy audit report.

The Green Audit is based on environmental laws and practices, encompassing the 360-degree environmental aspects of an educational institution. It includes environmental management, pollution control, and environmental initiatives. A comprehensive Green Audit delves into various facets of an educational institution's environmental footprint, ensuring a holistic assessment of its environmental management practices.

Note: Check point number 5 of this advisory (highlighted in yellow) clearly states that only an ISO 17020 accredited inspection agency (accredited through ILAC's accreditation system) can conduct a green audit.

There are many inspection companies in India conducting NAAC Green Audit & Energy Audit without accreditation. In many cases, inspection bodies may be accredited for other fields and are conducting Green Audit & Energy Audit.

Please stay away from such inspection companies because reports issued by them will not be recognized by NAAC. Please beware of such companies and read the NAAC advisory carefully.

Our Prestigious Clients

How can you verify if an inspection body meets NAAC's criteria? Many companies in the market conduct 'Green Audits' without proper accreditation, which is why NAAC has issued this advisory. Please follow the steps given below to check the accreditation:

Test report on a clipboard indicating eligibility for the BIFMA compliant registry placed on a desk, with a computer monitor in the background displaying BIFMA compliant registry checkmarks in an office setting.

Step:1

First of all, ask the inspection body to show their accreditation certificate (ISO 17020 certificate) copy and approved scope of inspection. Even if an inspection body has ISO 17020 accreditation, it does not mean the inspection body can conduct a 'Green Audit'. It should be specified in the scope approval letter of the inspection body. Please do not forget to check the accreditation status on the website of the accreditation board. Every accreditation board maintains a directory of their accredited inspection bodies.

Step:2

Visit the official website of ILAC, which is www.ilac.org, to check if the accreditation board itself is genuine or not. In many cases, you will find that the accreditation board itself is not approved by ILAC. Any accreditation issued by such an accreditation board is not valid for conducting a 'Green Audit'. Please visit the following link to check if an accreditation board is approved by ILAC or not:

Note: If you do not find the name of the accreditation board here, please be aware that you are going to waste your money.
